Getting to Glossa

The car ferry and the Flying Cat

Getting to Glossa is easy, with a variety of routes available. During the tourist flight season, you can get flights direct to Skiathos and then it`s less than half an hour on the fast ferry - flying dolphin or flying cat to Glossa. At most times of year you can get flights to Thessaloniki (Salonika). From 2008 Easyjet have a regular flight from the UK to Thessaloniki. You then take the bus to Volos and the flying cat to Skopelos (followed by bus ride - buses are frequent) or Glossa.

The other main way is to travel via Athens. From Athens airport you can get a flight to Skiathos or take a bus to the city, then go to the Liossion Street bus station and take a bus to Aghios Konstantinos (about two and a half hours) or Volos (about four hours) and then the fast ferry. For long-ish journeys like this bus seats are numbered - look out for the seat number in tiny letters on the side of the seat itself. There are also companies which run special buses to connect with the ferry at Aghios Konstantinos and you can book these at the same time as your ferry tickets. These special buses leave from Kallingos Square and you can buy the combined bus and ferry ticket from Alkyon Travel which has an office on the corner of the square (97 Akademias Street). You can’t book the bus ticket online at the moment, but their phone number is (+30) 210 383 2545.

For the independent traveler, it can be fun to have a couple of days in Athens or a day in Aghios Konstantinos before traveling on to Glossa.

In high season, particularly at the start and end of the August break, ferries can get full and it is good to book well in advance. You can book online (see link below) but you still need to collect your ticket from the local office. Or we can buy your tickets for you and post them on.

In the spring and autumn when there are fewer ferries, a late arrival in Skiathos may mean an overnight stay. It is best to get as early a flight as possible from the UK to avoid this even if it means getting up very early. Greece is two hours ahead of the UK.
